Our Company VUJE Significantly Contributes to the Greening of Czech Energy Sector
The most powerful coal-fired power plant in the Czech Republic is gradually ceasing coal combustion. A significant role in the implementation of the ecological project in Dětmarovice has been played by VUJE.
ČEZ is building a new low-emission heating plant in the area for two billion Czech crowns. Coal as the primary source will be replaced by a combination of biomass and natural gas. “After half a century, the era of coal heating will end, which we will smoothly follow with the launch of ecological sources,” confirms Martin Hančar, Director of Dětmarovice Power Plant.
As a part of the project our company VUJE constructed a new 400 kV transformer station, which at that time represented one of the largest and key projects of the Czech transmission and distribution system. This is a result of increasing electricity consumption and the decline of sources fed into the distribution network in the Moravian-Silesian region.
“The new transformer station, located in close vicinity to the Dětmarovice power plant, is a system measure essential for the reliable supply of the Ostrava region after the operation of the mentioned power plant blocks is terminated,” emphasizes the importance of the project Matej Korec, CEO and Member of the Board of VUJE, a.s.
The transformer station ensures a capacity of approximately 700 MW, which is comparable to the output of a single power plant.
The project also included the complex looping into the existing 400 kV line and the creation of new connections to Albrechtice and the Polish town of Dobrzeń. Our company VUJE thus coordinated the work of three partners – ČEPS (the Czech transmission system operator), ČEZ, and the Polish PSE.
“The schedule was set very ambitiously, and deviations from it were not allowed. This required extreme expertise and personal commitment from our management team, as well as the assembly workers who were under enormous pressure throughout the entire three years of construction,” appreciates the work of VUJE employees, CEO Matej Korec.
A complication during the project implementation, which our company handled excellently, was the special foundation of the transmission line due to exceptionally high groundwater, an unusually wet autumn, and the early onset of winter in 2023.
“Despite unforeseen circumstances, our team confirmed its reputation. We were able to cope with these factors and delivered the work to the full satisfaction of the customer,” evaluated the construction of the transformer station in Dětmarovice for VUJE, Matej Korec, with an important message about partnership: “I would also like to thank the representatives of ČEPS and ČEZ for creating a very constructive working atmosphere and a partnership approach in dealing with unforeseen situations.”
